A MERSEYSIDE man leapt to his death after realising he was on the wrong bus, an inquest heard yesterday.
Michael Anderson, 31, of Mark Rake, Bromborough, had been travelling into Birkenhead centre with his girlfriend when they realised the bus was heading towards the Queensway tunnel.
Mr Anderson asked the driver to stop and let him off but the driver refused.
Then the passenger decided to activate the emergency door as it turned a corner. But as he jumped from the bus, he fell under the vehicle and was hit by the rear wheel.
Brian Young, driver of the Arriva bus, said: "I heard the sound of the bus doors opening. I saw someone crumpled by the bus.
"I stopped and just by his appearance I could tell there was little or nothing I could do to assist him."
Mr Anderson suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Arrowe Park hospital where he was pronounced dead.
At the time, Mr Anderson was single and unemployed and had been living with his mother. He had a history of heroin and alcohol addiction.
The inquest into his death revealed that he had alcohol and methadone in his system when he died and was suffering with Hepatmitis C and chronic pancreatitis.
Coroner Christopher Johnson recorded a verdict of misadventure.
