A BUSY city centre stretch of road will become a bus lane from today, causing chaos for thousands of Liverpool motorists.
The section of Lime Street between the Adelphi Hotel and Skelhorne Street, at Lime Street station, is the latest to be hit by the Big Dig roadworks.
From midday today, only buses and taxis will be able to use the section of road, with all other traffic directed up Copperas Hill.
Traffic heading for Lime Street Station will no longer be able to turn right to get to the side entrance and shoppers using St John's Car Park will have to travel down Skelhorne Street, where the one-way direction will now be reversed. Copperas Hill will remain two-way.
It is hoped the £650,000 scheme will improve road safety, as well as access to the station.
Cllr Peter Millea, executive member for regeneration, said: "This is a vital scheme to help traffic to move safely around this busy area of our city centre.
"Lime Street station is a key gateway into the city and we want people using the station to be able to access it safely and to easily link up with bus services."
