TRAFFIC chaos in a Merseyside community could be coming to an end after years of work.
The government has told the council to start drawing up a detailed scheme for a link road between Switch Island and the A565 Southport Road in Thornton.
The bypass would take thousands of vehicles a day away from narrow residential streets between Switch Island, where the M57 and M58 meet, and the main routes to Southport and Crosby.
It is the biggest sign yet that the government is willing to give the go-ahead to the £9.3m road after years of delays.
Last year, the plan was controversially put on hold while Merseyside's transport chiefs focused on trying to get Merseytram off the ground.
