Electronic signs lead the way to The Open

Jul 17 2006

Daily Post, Liverpool Echo

Cllr Peter Millea with one of the signs at the Wallasey tunnel

NEW electronic information signs are going live across Merseyside to warn motorists about problems on the roads and to provide directions to popular attractions.

One of the first will direct motorists to use the Wallasey tunnel to reach the Open Golf Championships being held this week at the Royal Liverpool course in Hoylake.

The variable messaging signs are being put up in 17 city centre locations with 19 more going up elsewhere on Merseyside, including Wirral and the M62.

Cllr Peter Millea, Liverpool's executive member for regeneration and transport, said: "It is very appropriate that our first messages are helping motorists onto the best route to the Open Golf Champion-ship, as it demonstrates how closely the Merseyside authorities and Merseytravel are working together."
