Wind farm turbine work is finished

Aug 1 2006

A turbine like the ones to be used at the Burbo Bank wind farm off West Kirby

PILING work on the Burbo Bank wind farm has finished - to the delight of residents overlooking the estuary who complained about the noise.

The operation began on June 10 when the 5,769-tonne installation barge Jumping Jack took up position off the Crosby coast to begin driving in piles for the 25 140ft-high wind turbines that will generate enough electri-city to power 72,500 homes.

Wind farm developer Sea Scape said they were restricted to keep within 45 decibels of noise .

Site manager Bjarne Haxgarg said: "We have now finished installation of the piles, so there is no further noise from the work.

"We had a few complaints and we have been very sorry for causing any noise."

And he revealed that technical difficulties probably added to spectators' enjoyment of last week's golf Open at Hoylake: "Maybe the Open was lucky because the crane broke down so we could not work during the tournament!"
