We want our wall back to stop yobs

Aug 9 2006

By Mary Murtagh, Liverpool Echo

The message from the residents who have stopped the yobs invading Capricorn Crescent

IT IS the latest skirmish in the Battle of Capricorn Crescent.

Peace and quiet was restored when neighbours on a Dovecot street paid £7 each to build a wall to keep out yobs from a nearby estate.

The 6ft wall across the nearby public footpath meant quad bikers, drunken youths and vandals were kept away, and calls to the police dropped dramatically.

But because the wall was blocking aright of way, the residents had broken the law and council workmen dismantled it on Monday.

Within hours, motorcyclists were zooming through the gap so the neighbours took matters into their own hands.

The next day they retrieved the posts and panels from a council depot that made up the wall and rebuilt it.

Yesterday Liverpool council workmen arrived again to dismantle the wall.
