Andy van der Meyde's dog Mac

EVERTON footballer Andy van der Meyde made an emotional plea last night for the return of his stolen pedigree puppy.

Mac, a seven-month-old Dogue de Bordeaux, was snatched during a burglary at the Everton FC winger's home on Saturday.

Thieves forced a back door to the house in Higher Bebington, Wirral, and stole the dog along with Rolex watches, jewellery, a Ferrari and a Mini Cooper.

The two cars have been recovered since the break-in, which took place while the 26-year-old Dutchman was playing in the Howard Kendall testimonial match against Athletic Bilbao at Goodison Park. The dog remains missing.

Van der Meyde said: "Obviously, I want my stuff back, but I want Mac back more than anything. He is just a puppy.

"I would be prepared to pay a reward to anybody who gets him back for me."

The Dogue de Bordeaux, also known as a French Mastiff, were originally used as hunting and guard dogs in 12th century France.

The breed was made famous by the Tom Hanks film Turner and Hooch.

Such Puppies can cost anything around £1,000.
