Suspended media chief quizzed over council blog

Aug 22 2006

Liverpool Echo

A SUSPENDED media manager has been quizzed over whether he was involved with a controversial website about senior council staff.

Matt Finnegan was questioned as part of a town hall investigation into who compiled the "Liverpool-Evil-Cabal" blog.

The council today would not comment on whether he had been probed about the website, which was shut down last week.

Mr Finnegan has denied being brought into the council offices and questioned, but declined to comment further.

But senior council sources told the ECHO the suspended assistant executive director was directly asked if he was involved with the blog.

It is understood the council's inquiries centre on internet use at a library in Greater Manchester.

The council has not taken formal disciplinary action against any individual during its investigation.

Merseyside police have already said no criminal offences were committed by the website itself.

But it is thought some officials plan private legal action against the author of Liverpool-Evil-Cabal, who uses the name "Tony Parrish", if he or she is unmasked.
