A LIVERPOOL woman was rescued from a kitchen blaze by stand-in firefighters.
It came hours after striking firefighters announced eight more days of industrial action, starting on September 12.
Thewoman, in her 30s, was overcome by smoke from an unattended pan of food in her third-floor flat in St Mary's Road, Garston, yesterday.
The Toxteth team, including senior officers drafted in to provide cover during the strike, dragged the unconscious woman outside where she was treated for smoke inhalation. She declined hospital treatment.
Paul Gibson, a Merseyside fire and rescue service group manager, said: "It was a tremendous rescue and I will be recommending the crew for recognition.
"This woman would almost certainly have died had it not been for them."
Only one crew, including two fire safety officers, attended the incident, which would normally have a three-engine response.
