SUPPORTERS of Antony Gormley's iron men are appealing for a four-month stay of execution for the statues.
The Another Place installation is due to be moved from Crosby beach in October before it is shipped to New York to go on display there.
A £2m campaign was launched earlier this year to keep the 100 iron sculptures at Crosby.
NowAnother Place Ltd, the company set up to look at the long-termfuture for the installation, has applied to Sefton council for a temporary extension to planning consent.
It says the tides and short daylight hours mean the statues cannot be removedatthe end of their planning consent on November 28, butmust be taken out next month.
The companyclaims a four-month extension would take it to the spring when the first available low tide and longer daylight hours, would allow safe removal of the work.
