Dar family booted out

 Previous 1 2 3

Earlier this year, when Mr Clarke refused to block the deportation procedures, Mr Dar told the ECHO: "I'm a dead man now."

But last month's extension of bail offered them a glimmer of hope, backed up by the overwhelming support of community leaders and ECHO readers.

A Home Office aide said: "We don't normally comment on individual immigration cases."

Mr Dar, an aviation manager, fled with his family to Bootle after the political party he supported in Pakistan was toppled in a military coup.

Since then he has been a parent-governor of St Wilfrid's RC high school, where his three eldest daughters were pupils.

In January, Azbaa won a good citizen award after completing more than 500 hours of voluntary work at Fazakerley hospital.

Political correspondent Ian Hernon says

HOME Secretary Charles Clarke should be deeply ashamed of himself.

His refusal to intervene in the Dar family's deportation on the grounds of common humanity was bad enough.

But his hand-washing appears to have sent the immigration service a message that they can overturn a judge's bail ruling that the family could remain free until June to prepare their case.

That is not the rule of law, it is the law of the jungle.

By the time you read this the family could be close to getting on a plane heading towards a dangerous, uncertain future.

Let's hope that last minute pressure from MPs and community leaders can stop that happening.

A decent, hard-working family - an asset to this country - have gone through hell already. Their nightmare is far from over.
