Cops hold seven in gun gang raids

Merseyside Police matrix team

ARMED police today arrested seven suspected gun-gang members during raids in Liverpool.

Officers from the Matrix team swooped on the group, some as young as 15, at their homes in Croxteth and Norris Green this morning.

The raids follow a series of shootings which have left homes in the two areas riddled with bullets and residents terrified.

Gun battles have been sparked by rivalry between estate gangs in Norris Green and the Croxteth-based Strand Crew.

The seven men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life, conspiracy to possess firearms and ammunition without a certificate, and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm with intent.

Superintendent Ian Kemble, who heads the Matrix gun crime team, said: "We will be relentless in our pursuit of those who engage in any activity involving firearms, and today's arrests reinforce our commitment to making the streets of Merseyside safer."

By working together  we can make an impact on the activities of criminals who use guns and get the guns off our streets."

On April 24, drive-by gunmen shot a 17-year-old member of the Norris Green gang from the window of a speeding 4x4.

The teenager, believed to be part of the Norris Green gang, was shot from the window of a speeding 4x4 vehicle today.

He was treated in hospital for leg wounds, not believed to be life-threatening.

And on April 5 houses Norris Green were sprayed with bullets when gangsters fired a machine gun in another drive-by shooting.

The attack sparked a terrifying shoot-out as teenagers returned fire with their own weapon.
