MANY people will have heard of CPRE, which stands for the Campaign to Protect Rural England. They are a powerful voice on planning matters and the future of our countryside.
However, they have now also turned their attention towards urban areas and have been hoping for a group to set themselves up in Liverpool. The ECHO have highlighted many campaigns by groups throughout Liverpool fighting developers who are attempting to destroy their open spaces, parks and trees.
We now have a number of people who have agreed to establish a Liverpool CPRE to add a strong force to the view of local communities on issues in their area.
We need as many people as possible to build a stronger and more combined front. Please telephone this number for more information: 0151-421 0305.
HOW much longer? After seven years of Labour government, we still have to endure the brutality of the Waterloo Cup hare coursing.
Using live hares, this is an horrific form of greyhound racing and a gambling event.
Over the years, I have forced myself to join the peaceful protest against such cruelty, hoping each year it would be the last.
Hares are timid, harmless animals. When caught by one of the hey scream in fear and pain, while spectators cheer - a chilling experience for those concerned about what goes on under the law.

End grass verges
BECAUSE more motorists are parking on grass verges and effectively destroying them, there is surely a good case for doing away with verges and widening roads.
This would save the costs of mowing and general maintenance. Match-day parking problems could be solved if the north end of Queens Drive were widened and lay-by type parking provided.
A similar arrangement would be appropriate at the Allerton maze end of Queens Drive and Menlove Avenue where residents have turned verges into muddy eyesores. Parking spaces would then be available for people shopping in Allerton Road.
