Shortpoints DO you have a letter for Shortpoints? Why not use the special Shortpoints messageboard by clicking here? Remember to include your name and address * CAN someone please explain to me why one of the Wallasey tunnels seems to be closed every day? The congestion this causes on the Wallasey side is ridiculous. If it is due to maintenance work or cleaning then why can't this be done at night when the traffic is lighter? With increased tunnel charges soon coming into effect, is it too unreasonable to expect a reliable, free-moving passage through? S. Wright, Liverpool 14 * THE kids who are causing havoc in our communities deserve all they get and they should be named. Both parents and kids should be named and moved out of the neighbourhood. Why should law-abiding people have to put up with it? It only takes one useless family to wreck a whole community. Do we have to accept this behaviour from any family in any community? We have to say we won't. D. Blackwell, Liverpool *WHO will be paying for the clean-up operations, liaison officers and facilities that the police have suggested be put in place for gipsies? ('Police: We need more gipsy sites', ECHO, March 22). I don't think it is fair if the taxpayers in this city have to pay for those who choose not to pay tax, i.e. gipsies and travellers! Name and address supplied * THE full-page advertisement in the ECHO (March 22) by the Tory party must rank as the most blatant piece of hypocrisy ever. This advert is a gross insult to everybody on Merseyside. Howard's record as Home Secretary is about as low as his party's regard for the intelligence of us all. C. McCoy, L7 * CHRISTMAS DAY and Good Friday are known as thanksgiving days and are not bank holidays, as defined by the Bank Holidays Act. That is why there is a post on Good Friday but not on Easter Monday, which is a bank holiday. Name and address supplied *REGARDING the proposed statue of Bishop David Sheppard and Archbishop Derek Worlock. I am reminded of the Jewish teaching on the subject: "Great men need no statues. Their deeds are their memorial." Jonathan Morris, Hoylake * LIKE Dawn Collinson (Column, March 22) I too tuned in to Make Me A Supermodel on five and I was appalled at how the girls were treated. It wasn't about constructive criticism for the model wannabees at all but nasty jibes for the purpose of cheap TV. I won't be watching again. A. Jones, Wavertree. |
