* I WAS in my local multiplex watching a 12A rated film that warned of moderate language.

I was just enjoying what I thought was a relatively innocent film about a Mexican football player earning a crust at Newcastle Utd, when without due notice a scene of gratuitous horror was sprung on the unsuspecting viewer.

I refer to a scene in which the Mexican clogger scores the goal that puts Liverpool out of Europe.

Surely for local audiences there should be a special explanation on the film description, saying 'for Evertonians only. May cause shock, offence and maybe a heart attack to Reds fans!'

Steve Qualtrough,
L11

* OUR fight to light up, by Will Batchelor, (ECHO, October 13) was highly amusing. But who was he fighting and where's the enemy? It has always puzzled me that those people, who do so much to help the ones who find it hard to give up smoking, or those like Will, who do not wish to, should be regarded as killjoys.

An eminent surgeon has said that if he could take these people, who feel they cannot give up the filthy habit, round a ward of people dying of lung cancer, they would find it a lot easier to give up.

Mrs E Pursglove,
Netherton

* I READ in the ECHO (October 11), 'Train Guard Finds Kitten Abandoned in Case'. How could anyone be so cruel to deliberately go out of their way to abandon a kitten in this way? You wonder what mentality the ones responsible for this cruelty have. The poor little thing must have been terrified. It was so fortunate to have been rescued by such a caring person.

I just hope the person who did this is caught. There is no telling what might have happened to this kitten.

J Rigby,
L13

* I AM writing to thank the ECHO for all the nice things you said about my idol, Cliff Richard (ECHO, October 15). So many critics are ready to floor him, mainly the national papers.

They just haven't got one good word to say about him.

I have been a fan since 1958 (12 years old). I go to his concerts, tennis etc, what an entertainer. Cliff will go on for as long as us loyal fans continue to buy his records and go to his concerts.

Pat Finegan,
Skelmersdale

* THE Liverpool branch of the LTN (Liverpool Talking Newspapers for the Blind) is desperate for people to help with its weekly recordings.

All recordings are made on Thursday evenings from our studio in the STEC building on Speke Road. This is easily accessible by bus from the city and most of the suburbs.

Anyone who is interested should contact Ray Brough on 728 7350.

Joyce Exley,
Aigburth
