PLEASE forgive me for my ignorance, but why has a famous person like Saddam been hanged whereas perpetrators wanted for mass genocide in Rwanda have suddenly been arrested in Manchester. How did they get here ?

Where are the border controls ? Where is the so-called intelligence? I really do give up.

Dave Bohl,
West Derby

* IF J McMahon (Letters, Nov 20) reads the Virgin fares leaflet, he will find a standard saver return Liverpool to London costs £57.20, while a value advance standard single fare can be bought for as little as £12.50 to £24. There is no need, therefore, to pay £189 as quoted.

Bob Burton,
Calderstones

* RE your article by Luke Traynor (ECHO December 27) regarding the NHS and cost of missed appointments, this country should follow the examples of the USA and other countries and charge up front, no matter what excuse is given.

It would stop people abusing the NHS which already has problems, with the intake from EU countries. Maybe they should take an insurance out on lost revenue.

Mrs B Smith,
Liscard

* THE prime minister makes a mockery of our complaining about people coming here taking advantage of our hospitality. He is the biggest bum this side of the Alamo. You notice Bush does not seem to offer to put the Blairs up for a free holiday or Condoleezza Rice. The taxpayers were the mugs, who did not invite her but ended up paying. The Bee Gees have always lived in tax exile.

M Dunford,
Old Swan.

* HAVING just returned from taking our four-and-a-half-year-old grandson to his first pantomime, I thank the cast of the Royal Court panto Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for a most enjoyable afternoon's entertainment. My grandson's attention was riveted and our own Herbert the hairdresser was a credit to the city.

Thank you for keeping a small boy spellbound by the magic of Christmas panto.

G Anderson,
Roby

* I RECENTLY attended the Snow White pantomime at the Royal Court. A wonderful performance was given by everyone concerned.

Keith Howard,
address supplied

* I HAD the good fortune to win tickets in the ECHO to see C Beebies Live in Manchester on New Year's Eve.

I took my grandson Joshua and my niece and her son Kieran and, if I am honest, I don't know who had the most fun, us or them. It was wonderful, they had great fun and it put a big smile on the faces of two little boys.

Thankyou again.

Mavis Boner,
Kirkby
