HOW can hare coursing be a sport? How can fox hunting be a sport?
The Oxford English Dictionary defines sport as 'an activity involving physical exertion and skill, in which an individual, or team competes against another, or others, for entertainment.'
The important word there is AGAINST.
Can somebody in the know explain to me how a terrified hare can compete AGAINST a pair of blood thirsty dogs, and how a fox, running for its life, can compete AGAINST a pack of ravenous hounds - and believe that both parties have a chance of winning said contest?
Sport - as deemed by a normal and rational human being - is a contest between two people or teams, where each party has an equal chance of winning the contest.
Blood 'sports' appear,, certainly in my mind, not to fill this criteria.
How barbaric has man become, that he should watch the slaughter of innocent animals and call it entertainment.

Fight for rights
THE annual barbaric hare coursing event amply demonstrates why a ban on hunting with hounds is long over-due. The aggressive coursing enthusiasts who attend this event are a shameful sight in the twenty first century.
At this year's event, they outdid themselves by throwing a dismembered hare at the protesters, which demonstrates the level upon which these people operate.
It is appropriate that MPs attempt to deal with the cruelty that we inflict upon other sentient creatures. The hunting fraternity should not be allowed to use the argument of their so called civil liberties to fight the ban as this would lead to the re-introduction of bear baiting and cock fighting.
Hurry up Mr Blair and allow the ban on hunting with hounds to be enforced and give our hares a break from the Waterloo Cup thugs.
