I FULLY concur with the recent letters deploring the term Scouse. It is harsh, ugly, abrasive, aggresive and it isn't even English!
It is not so many years ago since it was considered offensive. Those who habitually refer to themselves as Scousers do so because they think it sounds "tough" - it doesn't, merely uncouth and thick.
The name of the city is Liverpool, not "Liverpuddle" and though Liverpudlian is far, far better than Scouse, Liverpolitan is the more correct. Likewise, an individual is not a Scouser but a Dicky Sam.
Let's bin this verbal atrocity before we become Capital of No-Culture.
BARRY Gordon-Jones of Sefton Park, was so quick to jump on his high horse that he completely missed the point of my letter. In his own letter he states "I use whatever transport is suited to my purpose". That is my point exactly!
For many of us, who do not live in the Sefton Park area, there are no viable alternatives to using a car.
I could make the effort to use public transport if I fancied walking half an hour to the nearest train station, or lugging my son and his pushchair on to a crowded bus during rush hour but to me (and my employer who likes me to get to work on time!), it's just not worth it.
Selfish? Possibly, but like Barry Gordon-Jones, "I use whatever transport is suited to my purpose" and,, in its current state, that is not anything operated by Merseytravel.
