THE Bulgarian authorities must explain why they released the man who later confessed to the crime Michael Shields was convicted for, it was demanded today.
Euro MP Arlene McCarthy also hinted the country should issue a European arrest warrant for Graham Sankey.
Speaking to the ECHO in her Brussels office, she said she is continuing to fight to clear Michael’s name in Bulgaria after the 23-year-old Liverpool FC fan received a Royal Pardon by justice secretary Jack Straw last month.
She wants to see the Bulgarians admit there was a miscarriage of justice and quash Michael's conviction for the attempted murder of barman Martin Georgiev in 2005.
