Today, claiming he feels let down, Michael said: "I need more help from the government to get Sankey over to Bulgaria. That's what everything depends on."
He also hit back at the campaign by sections of the Bulgarian media to keep him in prison.
"The press here feel we're attacking their judicial system but no judicial system is without fault - including the British one.
"I'm innocent and I'll fight this all the way. It hurt when Martin Georgiev told the TV news it was definitely me."
Michael's family were given fresh hope by reported comments from outgoing Bulgarian justice minister Anton Stankov that he would question Sankey.
Bulgarian weekly paper The Sofia Echo reported that Stankov said he "would not mind questioning" the Anfield electrician.
