UNION leader Brendan Barber today said he was “thrilled” the justice secretary decided to free Michael Shields.
Late last month Mr Barber, general secretary of the TUC (Trades Union Congress), wrote an open letter to Jack Straw imploring him to release the jailed Reds fan.
On Wednesday last week Mr Straw gave the 22-year-old a royal pardon after finally concluding he was "morally and technically" innocent.
