Michael Shields reacts in total disbelief after being sentenced to 15 years

A BULGARIAN court will hear the appeal by jailed teenage Reds fan Michael Shields on October 14.

Supporters will step up their demands that the court should hear new evidence, which points to his innocence, including a confession by fellow Liverpudlian Graham Sankey.

Riverside MP Louise Ellman said: "It is vitally important new evidence is available to the court.

"I hope the Bulgarians will agree to consider the Sankey confession. An innocent young man has suffered enough and so have his family.

"All we have been asking for is justice for Michael."

Shields, 18, was sentenced to 15 years for attempted murder of a barman at the Bulgarian resort of Golden Sands after watching Liverpool's champions league win in Istanbul.
