THE family of jailed Liverpool fan Michael Shields yesterday presented a petition to Downing Street signed by people from Merseyside, outraged at his 15-year sentence.
They were also handing over thousands more messages of support from Japan, Canada, Australia, Germany, Holland, Ireland and other countries.
The petition, containing more than 30,000 names, says the Bulgarian court refused to acknowledge evidence pointing to his innocence, including the confession by Graham Sankey.
Foreign Office Minister Douglas Alexander will meet the Shields family and has promised to ensure he has full legal and consular support ahead of his Supreme Court appeal.
