FORMER Everton defender Tommy Clinton has passed away at the age of 83.
Tommy had been suffering ill-health for a while and died peacefully.
He joinedŠEverton from Dundalk in 1948 and made his senior debut against Burnley at Goodison in February 1949.
In 1952-53 he played in every game in the FA Cup as the then Second Division Everton reached the semi-final before losing to Bolton Wanderers at Maine Road.
While at Everton, he represented the Republic of Ireland on three occasions.
Tommy left the club in 1955 to join Blackburn Rovers and he later played for Tranmere Rovers but the family connection with Everton stayed strong as his wife Muriel and daughter Nicola both worked in the Goodison offices for many years.
