LIVERPOOl reserves went down to an undeserved 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester United in the Barclays FA Premier Reserve League North.

Liverpool shaded the first half in terms of possession and chances, but fell behind to a fortuitous goal from Chris Eagles after 26 minutes.

The midfielder’s left-wing free-kick was missed by everybody and Liverpool keeper Daniele Padelli was left flatfooted as the ball curled into the far corner of his net.

It was United’s only goal attempt of the opening 45 minutes, whereas Liverpool had a few presentable opportunities that they didn’t take.

The second half was one way traffic as Liverpool completely dominated.

Jordy Brouwer and Ryan Flynn both wasted excellent headed opportunities, before Paul Anderson came within a whisker of an equaliser with a shot was deflected just over.

LIVERPOOL: Padelli, Darby, Insua, Paletta, Hobbs, Spearing, Anderson, Flynn, Lindfield, Brouwer, Threlfall (Putterill 71).

MANCHESTER UNITED: Heaton, Lee, Evans, Lea, Barnes, Ngalula, Mullan, Burns, Dong (Bryan 81), Eagles (Fagan 81), Marsh.
