Meanwhile, Dirk Kuyt is mystified that Jamie Carragher is continually overlooked by England as the Liverpool defender faces the axe once again for his country this evening.
Carragher is poised to drop to the bench for the Euro 2008 qualifier against Andorra in Barcelona despite being one of the few England players to emerge with any credit from the dismal goalless draw in Israel at the weekend.
It was only the 33rd cap of an England career that began in April 1999 with a substitute appearance in a 1-1 friendly draw in Hungary.
And Anfield team-mate Kuyt believes 29-year-old Carragher should have earned more international recognition for his displays with Liverpool.
Kuyt said: “He is a wonderful player. Some people don’t know how good Jamie is. At Liverpool everybody knows, so for me it’s strange how few times he’s played for the national side. He’s one of the best defenders in the world.”
