Brandon flowers to send Town into last four

FAVOURITES Middlewich Town reached the semi-finals of the Cheshire Building Society Mid-Cheshire League Jack Parker Challenge Cup with a 1-0 victory at Garswood United thanks to a well-taken goal by Mike Brandon.

In the three other quarter-finals, Gamesley beat Knutsford 2-1, Pilkington ousted Linotype/Cheadle Heath 4-2 and Greenalls Padgate St Oswald's went through by the only goal at Styal.

The semi-final draw is: Middlewich Town v Greenall Padgate St. Oswald's; Pilkington v Gamesley.

In the first of the Second Division Cup quarter-finals, Warrington Town reserves won by the only goal at Malpas. Ties yet to be played: Billinge v Maine Road res; Broadheath Central v Congleton Town res; Stalybridge Celtic res v Club AZ.

In a reduced First Division programme Barnton drew a Town Field thriller 3-3 with Woodley Sports reserves as both teams stay on the fringe of the title challenge. Middlewich lead with 24 points from nine games with Woodley and Barnton third and fourth respectively behind Knutsford.

Stalybridge Celtic reserves continue to shine in their first season, retaining a six-point lead in Division Two thanks to a 1-0 win at Congleton Town reserves. Second-placed Broadheath Central had a more comfortable win by 5-1 at home to Club AZ, but there was a setback for Golborne Sports, who stay third after a 3-2 defeat at Tarporley Vics.

Witton Albion reserves lost their Cheshire Amateur Cup second round replay 2-0 against Castrol Sports at Moss Farm and failed to join the four Mid-Cheshire clubs already through to round three.

The third round draw (games on Saturday, November 25, kick-off 1.30pm unless stated) is: Ashville v Upton AA (3pm); Capenhurst v Mellor; Christletonv Castrol Sports; Heswall v Warrington Town res.; Poulton Vics v Stalybridge Celtic res. (3pm); Styal v Ellesmere Port; Vauxhall Motors res. v Bronze Social; Woodley Sports res. v New Brighton (3pm).

In the second round of the Mid-Cheshire FA Senior Cup on Wednesday last week at Wincham Park, Barnton lost 3-1 against a strong Witton Albion team. Dave Crowe (2, one a penalty) and Mike Moseley scored for Witton with Kyle Dyson replying.
