ASHVILLE hit back with a bang over rivals New Brighton in the Pyke Cup third round as Simon Donaghue and Steve Forbes smashed two each to ensure a semi final place against Heswall. In the First Division, Maghull climb to second after disposing of West Kirby when David Nolan and John Morgan cancelled out the visitors' goal from Mathew Cass. Danny Andrews and Matty Woodward goals secured the points for Upton AA Res against fellow strugglers Willaston Res. A Mike Skillen goal for Mersey Royal was not nearly enough as the visitors Runcorn Town Res went nap with a hat-trick from Craig Beech and one each from Mark Tudor and Ged Bushell. Gary Brabender and Andy Slight goals for Manor Athletic held out against Focus, who had Phil Davies as their marksman. Two goals from Paul Cochran gave Grange Athletic a welcome victory against high flying Capenhurst Res, who had Robbie Manning on target. In the Youth Division, Ashville Youth were 1-1 at the interval with Cammell Laird Res but the superior fitness of Laird in the second half saw goals from Riley (2), Carling, Keenan, Ryan and Delaney keep them in touch with the leaders. In the top-of-the-table battle Lakewood, with goals from the division's leading scorer Mike Grogan (2), Robert Foley and Neil Pugh, saw off the challenge of Hale Youth. West Kirby's mini revival came to an abrupt end at Richmond Raith Rovers when Ali Woodcock (2), Ben O'Donnell and Chris Gardner secured the points. David Bowe netted for the visitors. In a truncated Cheshire Amateur Cup programme, a hat-trick from Jamie Kenyon and two from Carl Dunbar gave Heswall an easy win against Alsager Res. Poulton Victoria progressed thanks to strikes from Ian Burrows and Paul Hughes against Stalybridge Celtic Res.
