AINTREE VILLA have sparked their season into life following a 5-3 win over Marine Res in midweek and a 2-1 victory over Vauxhall Motors Res on Saturday.
Strikers Phil Cole and Colin McDonald earned Aintree the points to move them into fifth, one point behind leaders Heswall.
The scene is now set as the top, as eight clubs have only three points separating them.
West Kirby moved into second after Lee Gibson scored the only goal against Heswall and, with three games in hand, they are well placed.
Down at the bottom Castrol Social fell behind to goals from John Strange and Liam Kennedy of fellow strugglers Cammell Laird Res. Newton were glad of an own goal by Maghull to salvage a point after Dave Johnson had given the visitors the advantage.

New Brighton’s mediocre season continued with the visit of Blacon Youth Club as a goal by Rob Courtney salvaged a point, cancelling out Craig Warrington’s strike for Blacon.
In preparation for their new adventure in the FA Vase this Saturday, Ashville powered their way to a very comfortable win at Merseyside Police. A hat-trick from Simon Donaghue and one each from Quirk, Baggot and Cavanagh secured the three points.
FC Pensby found some belated form to dispose of Willaston as goals from Mark Irvine and Andy Edge eased relegation worries.
Mallaby resumed normal service with a comfortable 4-0 win against MANWEB, with two from Shaun Keevey and one each from Mike New and Danny Burns.
