A DOUBLE from in-form winger Paddy Flynn and stand-off Anthony Thackeray wasn’t enough to overcome upwardly mobile Featherstone Rovers at the Chris Moyles Stadium.
Two late Rovers tries ensured it was them who took all three points after Widnes appeared to have the game sewn up following Mark Smith’s one-pointer six minutes from time.
But Featherstone roared back with efforts from Tom Saxton and Stuart Dickens to pip Widnes to the post.
Toa Kohe-Love got the Vikings off to a flier after only two minutes of play but Kyle Briggs hit back for the home side. Flynn and Thackeray restored order for Widnes with well-taken efforts but a Jon Steel try a minute from half-time gave Rovers the tonic they needed. Immediately from the kick-off they marched up the other end of the field and Andy Kain shot over to put Featherstone in the frame.
Saxton opened the scoring for Rovers on 42 minutes before Flynn and Thackeray had got Widnes back in the driving seat. Dickens powered over and then Saxton grabbed his second.
