IF you're a player, coach, director, administrator or fan of Warrington or Huddersfield, this is a week you should relish. The build-up to the Carnegie Challenge Cup final will be fantastic for those involved with the competing clubs. Of course, the coaching staff at the Wolves and the Giants will be doing everything they can to keep the players’ feet on the ground. Trying to approach the final, as far as possible, in the same way you'd approach any other game is probably one of the keys to success. The key phrase there is 'as far as possible'. The fact is, it isn't just any other the game. For a start, players will have family and friends looking for tickets from them. And the media interest will be difficult to ignore. The Giants rested quite a few players in their match at Saints on Friday but still came up with a credible performance, only losing 12-10. It will be interesting to see how Warrington go about trying to break them down. This is not an easy game to call. The bookmakers seem to have them about even going into the match. The battle up front should be ferocious. And then both teams will be looking to their game-breakers to come up with the special plays which could mean the difference between winning and losing. I've still got close ties with Warrington, my former club, and would probably like to see them win. Then again, my brother Danny is now a Huddersfield player, although he won't be playing. So my tip is . . . . Warrington! Saints will be ready for Leeds Rhinos test LEEDS have now overtaken Saints on points difference at the top of the engage Super League following their big win over Celtic Crusaders on Saturday. That said, it's now looking increasingly likely, with two regular season games left, it will come down to who wins the game between the two sides at Headingley a week on Friday. I suppose a draw now favours the Rhinos. But we'll be up for it and will benefit from having no game this weekend. Charity ride a real joy in France OUR cycle ride through France on behalf of the Steve Prescott Foundation has been absolutely fantastic! The French people have been great on the journey, taking an interest in what we're doing and wishing us well. At the time of writing, we've covered the best part of 600 miles, and everyone is keeping up the pace – including the 'non-athletes' we were a bit worried about! We've been cycling from Perpignan and we were due at Calais today for the ferry. We'll be back on the bikes again when we get to Dover and we'll be paddling a Dragon Boat up the Thames on Friday. On Saturday, we're running a half-marathon from Uxbridge to Wembley Stadium where Steve will present the match ball for the Carnegie Challenge Cup final and the lads will parade on the pitch at half-time. We're raising money for Christie's Hospital and the Rugby League Benevolent Fund. To contribute, please go to www.steveprescottfoundation.com |
