Park handle with care for no reward

Oct 26 2009

West Park 22, Rossendale 28

by Ron Roby, Liverpool Daily Post

TWO bonus points for four tries and restricting Rossendale to a six point margin was disappointing reward for a determined Park side.

It was the hard work and solid approach of the visitors that finally won the day despite the home side showing a lot of enterprise and useful handling.

The Merseysiders went into an early lead when Neil Hull went in at the corner for Craig Orrick to convert. A reply came from the visitors with a penalty before they took advantage of Park’s Rob Hanson and Ian Critchley going to the sin bin.

Veteran Neil Ryan then left the fray with a calf injury before a penalty try edged the visitors further ahead.Park narrowed the margin when Warren Hunt scampered over but Dejager replied with another kick with the interval approaching.

Playing into a strong wind Park opened the second period impressively with Mark Williams scoring. Dale increased their lead with a penalty for a high tackle before flanker Cameron Thompson sprinted clear for a decisive try. There were several misfortunes for the home side in the closing stages before Stephen Briers with a last minute touchdown at least rescued another bonus point.
