Paul Waring slips on Euro money list

Oct 27 2009

by Trevor Peake, Liverpool Daily Post

PAUL WARING slipped three places down to 110th in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai order of merit despite playing all four rounds in the Castello Masters in Spain, where he finished in a share of 57th place.

The Bromborough professional just made the cut after opening with rounds of 70 and 71 and although he added a pair of 69s over the weekend he didn’t move too far up the leaderboard as the weekend scores tumbled.

Waring’s five under par total of 279 earned him 5,600 euros and took his season’s total to 265,241 from 24 tournaments, in a season which has seen him miss almost three months action with a wrist injury.

Styal’s David Horsey saved his best until last in Spain, a final round of six under par 65 shooting him into a share of 18th place.

The former Cheshire and England amateur, in his rookie season on the European Tour, opened with a 67 to share 11th place and comfortably made the cut with a second round 71 before adding a third round 70.

Horsey earned 24,866 euros for his 11 under par final total of 273 to move up to 69th in the money list with earnings of 424,666 euros.

Lee Slattery had to withdraw in Spain after an opening 71 and slips down to 134th in the money list with 202,627. The Southport professional is 44,000 euros behind the man currently in 115th place in the order of merit, with the top 115 keeping their cards for next season.

He has a chance to move up, however, in this week’s Barclays Singapore Open, having received a sponsor’s invitation to the event.

Nick Dougherty won his first tour event in Singapore when he claimed the Caltex Masters in 2005. The Berkshire-based Liverpudlian is 27th in the Race for Dubai with 792,454 earned from 24 tournaments and he is in the field in Singapore, having not played in the last three tour events.
