Rosenthal’s Old Links heroes storm to victory in handicap final showdown

THE Southport Old Links handicap team are the 2009 winners of the Southport and District Golf Association’s team tournament.
Gary Rosenthal’s men were last out in the final challenge at Southport and Ainsdale, with the task of overtaking the host team’s total of 147 points.
But the Old Links are earning the reputation as specialists in this end-of-season tournament with a proven record of success.
Their pairing of Michael Arthur and Ian Winterburn came in with 40 points to set up the prospect of a fine victory.
That was confirmed when the anchor pairing of Alan Richardson and John Wilson finally secured the team trophy by a single point.

The result brought the second defeat for Southport and Ainsdale in one week.
The previous weekend they were beaten 3.5 – 1.5 by West Lancashire in the SDGA Handicap Section Summer League final at the Penwortham club.
