CAROLINE MARRON from Bromborough, a member of the Cheshire Ladies team for some 20 years and a winner of the English Ladies Strokeplay, has become the first lady to win a prize in the Liverpool Alliance since it opened its events to female golfers last year.
Marron, winner of the English Northern Seniors this year – her first in golf’s senior rank – won the Alliance’s am-am section with club colleague Jamie Guy.
Their 45 points return at Vicars Cross was one clear of Blundells Hill’s Mark English and Phil Spencer.
John Sondergaard of Blundells Hill with Wallasey’s James Tisdale were third with 43.
Sandeep Grewal from Heswall won the individual section with 42, one clear of Ian Finnes of Formby Hall. Bromborough’s Tim Backhouse was third with 40.
Grewal, with Oliver Carr from Heswall, also won the pro-am with 47.
Backhouse with club partner Andy Wilkinson finished second with 46 with Finnis and Dave Hodge from Hesketh third with 45.
Grewal’s win helped him close the gap on Nick Sargent in the Order of Merit. Sargent, who did not play at Vicars Cross, still leads the Merit with 265 points. Grewal is second with 189.
