PAUL WARING moved up eight places in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai order of merit when he finished in a share of 41st place in the Portugal Masters on ten under par 278.
The 24-year-old Bromborough professional, who missed almost three months of the season with a wrist injury, earned 18,000 euros to take his season’s total to 259,641 from 23 events and now stands 107th in the order.
Lee Slattery and Phil Archer both missed the cut in Portugal, Slattery shooting 74-69 and Archer 71-72.
Slattery needs a couple of good finishes in the final few weeks of the season if he is to climb into the top 115 in the order who automatically retain their cards. He currently lies 128th in the order with 202,627 euros banked from 29 starts, almost 37,000 euros behind the man in 115th place.
It is an even taller order for Archer, who is down in 152nd place with earnings of 141,832 from 32 tournaments. The Warrington man has had a disappointing season missing the cut 16 times, including in his last four starts.
Waring, Slattery and Archer are all in the field for the Castellon Masters starting in Spain on Thursday, along with Styal’s David Horsey.
Nick Dougherty has already secured his place in the Championship having won 792,454 euros in 24 tournaments this season to stand 27th in the money list.
The Berkshire-based Liverpudlian, who hasn’t played in the last two European Tour events, is again missing from the line-up in Castellon this week.
