PETER, 60, the son of a sugar-beet factory worker, was brought up in Ely, Cambridgeshire, and attended Soham Grammar School, playing inside-left for the school and the Ely City youth team.
After studying French and German for a BA in modern languages at Bangor University, North Wales, Peter became a teacher. In 1977, he added an MA in educational psychology to his qualifications.
He is married to Evelyn and they have two children, Michael, 24, a Manchester policeman, and Karen, 27, area manager of Slimming World.
Before moving to Kingsmead in 1997, Peter taught at Alsop Comprehensive, Liverpool; Dovecot Community Comprehensive, Liverpool; Kingsway High School, Chester; Weatherhead High School, Wallasey; and Croxteth Comprehensive, Liverpool.
He has published numerous articles and text books and was for 12 years Oxford University's chief German A level examiner. Although still fit and a 10k runner, he no longer coaches football.
