TONY SIMPSON enjoyed a fine victory in the 1.4L class at the final round of the Silverstone Tyres BTRDA National Rally Championships in North Wales.
The Liverpool-based rally driver capped his return to competitive action by guiding his Polo Gti home ahead of 11 similar specification cars.
The action began in Llandudno before heading out to the world famous Clocaenog and Penmachno stages.
Simpson said: “It had been nearly five years since I competed in this class and we really didn’t know where we would be pace wise. We just wanted to do ourselves justice against some far newer machinery.
“The morning stages in Clocaenog were littered with mistakes and a lack of confidence as we tried to familiarise ourselves with a new tyre and car combination.
“But I always felt on the later stages we would start to pick off some of our rivals and that proved to be the case. This result has given us the push we needed to return for a full season next year.”
