GREENBANK Sports Academy hosted the prestigious wheelchair basketball European Champions Cup competition last weekend.
National Super league champions Oldham Owls represented the country against some of Europe's leading wheelchair basketball sides in one of the world's toughest club competitions.
The Owls, competitors at European club competitions for the last 17 years, took on faced a tough challenge in the shape of Anda-lucia, of Spain.
Andalucia edged the match 67-64 in extra time with spectators from local schools cheering their teams on and making this an excellent start to the EuroCup weekend.
Liverpool's Ademola Orogbemi and Abdillahi Jama showed excellent form with Jama deservedly being selected for the All-Star Team.
The three-day event was one of many which sees Greenbank Sports Academy, a local charity supported by Liverpool 08, United Utilities and Sports-match kick start a grass roots programme of disability sport.
Jan Berteling, president of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation Europe said: "We had a very fine tournament in Liverpool with five strong teams and some excellent, fast and furious wheelchair basketball."
This weekend local charity, the Greenbank Project, is to host the City of Liverpool Open International Wheelchair Table Tennis.
