Alonso wants a flourishing finish

07:45, Oct 26 2012

Fernando Alonso has called on Ferrari to deliver a perfect four-race salvo to finish the season and clinch this year's Formula One world title.

After leading the championship since June, Alonso now finds himself chasing Sebastian Vettel in their joint bid to become a three-time champion heading into Sunday's Indian Grand Prix.

Alonso knows there is now no room for error, and said: "At the moment we have seen that Red Bull maybe has the fastest car, especially on Saturday (in qualifying). They will try and make the most of this strong point and we will try to use our strong points."

He added: "It is a matter of pushing everything to the limits now - the car development, the strategy and the approach to the weekends, but that is no different to what we have been doing all year.

"We were leading the championship up until Korea thanks to our consistency and through avoiding making mistakes.

"We have produced 16 perfect races and now we must produce another four. If we do that we'll be very close to winning the championship."

Although Vettel undoubtedly has the momentum - as he targets becoming the first driver to win four successive races since Jenson Button in 2009 - Alonso sees no reason why form and fortune cannot swing his way again.

"My situation is quite good. Actually it's the second best situation for a driver," said Alonso.

"With four races to go we have nearly the same points as Vettel and have all the possibilities open for the championship. We are in the situation we wanted - fighting for the championship until the end.

"It's true that in the last few races, Red Bull has been very strong and quick, but we have seen all year there have been ups and downs for everybody. We just need to improve our situation, our level of competitiveness and try to catch them."
