A British clean sweep in the men's S8 400 metres freestyle at the Aquatics Centre appears a distinct possibility after brothers Sam and Oliver Hynd and ParalympicsGB team-mate Thomas Young filled the top three places in qualifying for tonight's final.
The trio claimed a one-two-three at last year's European Championships in Berlin, Sam Hynd leading the way ahead of younger brother Oliver with Young taking bronze.
Sam Hynd was fastest through on Friday morning in four minutes 33.25 seconds, Young and Oliver Hynd filling second and third.
For the elder Hynd, his effort was what he had planned for and he said: "A very good swim, I was really pleased with how it went. The tactics were right on what me and my coach set. I'm glad to get the heat out of the way. All the pressure's off after that."
Brother Oliver was less pleased however with his time of 4mins 36.40secs, saying: "It's a heat swim, you get a lane in the final and that is all it is after in the morning. I would have liked to have been a little bit faster but I've got another opportunity to swim faster tonight."
Young, though, was more satisfied with his 4:34.16 effort and believes they can repeat their clean sweep from Berlin.
He said: "It was quicker than I thought it would be, I think the crowd picked me up on that last 150. I just wanted to go in and see what I've got and it shows I've got a lot left in the tank for that final tonight so it could be a 1-2-3 I reckon."
Heather Frederiksen was second fastest in the women's equivalent in 4:58.29 despite having had poor health for the past year.
Frederiksen was more than 15 seconds ahead of her nearest rival and looks a good bet for a medal although she herself was almost 14 seconds down on fastest qualifier Jessica Long of the United States who set a Paralympic record of 4:44.52.
British pair Charlotte Henshaw and Emma Hollis were 12th and 14th.
