Great Britain cyclist Jon-Allan Butterworth, nursing injuries from a training crash with team-mates on Tuesday, finished 13th in the men's C5 time-trial as Yeger Dementyev of Ukraine won gold at Brands Hatch.
The 26-year-old from Sutton Coldfield won three silver medals on the track, but was unable to translate the results into success on the road, completing the 24-kilometre route, which included all the twists and turns of the fabled motor-racing circuit, in 36 minutes 56 seconds.
Dementyev won gold in 32mins 12secs, with China's Liu Xinyang second in 32:21 and Michael Gallagher of Australia third in 33:12 as Butterworth finished next to last in the event.
Butterworth, who lost his left arm while serving for the RAF in Iraq, was wearing heavy bandaging on his right-hand side after a training crash when he tangled handlebars with a British tandem bike.
"Going down one of the descents I was on the racing line, I got taken out by a tandem," Butterworth said.
"I went down pretty heavily, at about 50kph something like that. Ankle, knee, hip, back, shoulder, arm and quite deep (cuts) on my elbow. I didn't know if I was going to ride today. It's been quite sore resting on my wounds on the TT bike.
"I don't think it's four-and-a-half minutes' worth of pain - I definitely wouldn't have won anyway - but it definitely had an impact on my performance."
Only Lora Turnham and her pilot Fiona Duncan are competing in the tandem disciplines on the road for Britain. Butterworth refused to condemn his team-mates after tangling handlebars, adding: "It was an accident. I don't know how it happened."
The incident curtailed his reconnaissance of the circuit and he rode tentatively as a result. "My session was cut short," he added. "The first lap I was taking it a bit easy, I didn't know how fast to go on corners. It was quite long and quite tough."
Ireland's Cathal Miller was 11th in 35:14. He said: "I'm really happy with that. That's my best ride of the year from a TT perspective." Shaun McKeown finished sixth in the men's C3 time-trial 16km in 24:44. David Nicholas of Australia won gold in 23:22.
