Sammut sticks with Bulls

07:45, Oct 18 2012

Bradford's Australian half-back Jarrod Sammut has become the latest player to re-sign with the club under its new ownership.

The 25-year-old former Penrith Panther, who joined the Bulls from Crusaders 12 months ago, was one of 17 players out of contract at the end of the season and is now relieved to have signed a new two-year deal.

"When you know your future is secure you feel a lot more settled and at ease," he said. "It's great to get something finalised and put pen to paper."

He added: "I did have a few other options, which is always good to have up your sleeve, but my priority was always to stay at Bradford.

"I'm settled here and England is my home. I really enjoy playing in Super League and now I've signed a contract extension I'm looking forward to helping us getting back to being the dominant force we once were."

Sammut was made exempt from the overseas quota after the Crusaders' sudden decision to pull out of Super League left many of their players facing uncertain futures, and the Rugby Football League have confirmed that his status will remain as "federation-trained".

That enabled the club to offer Sammut a new deal and Bulls head coach Franny Cummins was delighted to secure him for two more years.

"Jarrod is one of those players who can do things that others can't," Cummins said. "We've sat down and addressed other parts of his game and I think he's ready to step up now.

"That's what I'll need from him but he showed at the back end of the year that he can definitely contribute. Jarrod's challenge now is to produce the goods on a regular basis because he definitely has the talent and we're delighted to have him on board."

Prop Manase Manuokafoa and centre or second rower Chev Walker have also signed new contracts.
