Snooker: Rod Lawler’s luck of Irish

Nov 2 2007

by Neil Goulding, Liverpool Daily Post Correspondent

LIVERPOOL’S Rod Lawler is desperate to make his mark at this year’s Northern Ireland Trophy – his first ranking event appearance for nearly nine months.

The provisional world number 45 beat Widnes professional Andrew Higginson in his final qualifying match for the £200,500 tournament, which runs at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall between November 4 and 11.

“You want to qualify for as many venues as you can, that’s why you play the game. You want to play the best players in front of the TV cameras,” said Lawler.

On Sunday night the 1996 International Open runner-up is looking to keep his recent winning run going when he locks horns with local favourite Mark Allen.

Fellow Liverpool cueman John Parrott takes on Mark King on Monday morning.

The 1991 world champion said: “I’ve been playing well and had some good breaks.”
