It features new characters and a bit of a rewrite which adds a little complexity to the original scenario. But the theme remains the same as a small group of cops battle to defend their station from some pretty nasty adversaries.
The always excellent Brian Dennehey adds a touch of class with his cliched role of the cop due for retirement while a sexual ingredient is added with secretary Drea De Matteo.
Set on New Year's Eve during a blizzard, the cops prepare to shut down the building for good when a prison bus is forced to stop by and allow its four prisoners to sit out the storm.
Two gunmen attack the building and pretty soon there is a whole gang of gun-toting gangsters out there.
As you might expect, there are a lot of sudden deaths and the tension is racked up pretty well.
It's a film which is all about action with much of the dialogue pretty routine stuff, even in the mouth of leading man Ethan Hawke.
Throw in some police corruption and you know exactly where you are being led.
