Earlier this year the Picket's management board announced it is to be sold off after a shortfall in funding.
Today The Picket's music venue manager, Phil Hayes, called on Liverpool council bosses to find the funds to keep the centre open.
He said: "Over the years it has helped countless young people with an interest in the music business.
"It's up to Liverpool council to find the cash to keep it going for local people."
Garry Christian, front-man with Liverpool band The Christians, is also backing the campaign.
He said: "If this place closes you can count me out of this city of culture and once again the people with the loot will get their way."
A spokesman for Liverpool council said: "We cannot be a cash cow. We were the most generous city in the country when it came to giving grants to different community organisations."
