LIVE-A-MUSIC, the group made up of Royal Liverpool Philharmonic players, is celebrating its tenth anniversary.
To mark the occasion, they will be staging their own Live-A-Christmas Show at the Bluecoat Arts Centre on Saturday.
The hour-long concert will feature popular Christmas songs - from Silent Night to When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney - and feature a storyline about Snodgrass the Bear's Christmas Eve.
Tony Burrage, director of Live-A-Music, says they have performed string quartets and other chamber music in many cities in the last decade.
"We have even been as far afield at The Three Choirs Festival in Worcester." But he said that the most important aspect of their work has been its community-based involvement in music for children and young people.
"If adults are to enjoy music, they have to learn early on to come to concerts," he says. "We hope our family concerts help to encourage this life-long involvement in live perform-ances and music-making." The independent group of musicians - as Ensemble Live - has also developed an interest in neglected chamber music of British composers and recorded unknown works by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.
* LIVE-A-CHRISTMAS Show is at the Bluecoat on Saturday at 2.30pm. Tickets £5/£3 at the door or box office 0151-707 9393.
