A CROSBY art student has created a series of four paintings of her 'dream destination' - New York City. The 'New York Collection' is currently on display at 3tc House in Crosby Road North, Waterloo. Emma Worth, 20, of Rawson Close, Seaforth, studied art A-level as a Sacred Heart pupil and went on to do a foundation course at Hugh Baird College. She is now about to start her second year at Wirral Metropolitan College. She said: "Throughout school, artwas my favourite subject. I am happy now that I can concentrate on it." Emma was inspired to produce her four New York paintings after atrip to the city in May. She told us: "I finally went on holiday to New York -where I've always dreamed of going. I loved the bright lights, the sheer size and commotion of the place. I also got to visit all the big art galleries there." Emma'spaintings showthe neon-lit city by night, as well as busy day-time street scenes, featuring a NewYork taxi among other things. She is now working on a new project, again depicting New York, but this time she is painting morelonely scenes, taking inspiration from US artist Edward Hopper. In future, Emma would like to work asa freelance artist, staying in different countries, basing her work on each location. And, as a budding artist, what does Emma think of Antony Gormley'siron men sculptures on Crosby beach? "I like them, it's a good concept, but I'm not sure whether they should stayor go," she said. Dot Morris, 3tc's facilities team leader, told us: "Many visitors to our building have already expressed interest in Emma's paintings." The paintings have been up since August 15 and the exhibition is expected to run through September. The building is not usuallyopen to the public but anyone wishing to see the paintings can call 285-4000. |
