A NEW outlet for local musicians has been provided at the Toby in the guise of anew Open Mic night.
Organisers Helen and Steve (aka acoustic duo Northern Daze) are hopeful the evenings will provide a platformfor musicians to perform in one of Skem's best known venues.
Helen explained: "We welcome anyone who wants to come have a go!
"Open Mic nights provide an ideal opportunity to make yourself heardin arelaxed and friendly environment."
Northern Dazekicked the evening off performing some of their own material which included Another Day and Den of Iniquity alongside covers from Pink Floyd and Bob Marley. Before long, however, the list of vacant spots began to fill up and they had to step aside!
Next into the stocks came local singer/songwriter Matt Swift who, after finding his feet with a couple of covers, performed averitable set of acoustic self-penned tunes.
Matt also welcomed the Open Mic night. "It's encour-aging to see the turnout, plus it gives more established musicians to check out local competition!" A smattering of Stormy Corner members also treated us to some understated unplugged treats, including Cat Out TheBag, before(easy)jetting off to gig dates in Glasgow and London.
However, local lads Rimmer and Reillywere also determined to state their case before the evening's finale, with Rimmer debuting the self-penned 'Where AreYou Now' and the ubiquitous Reilly delivering a tenacious 'Dreaming of You.' You heard them here first...
