A NEW pension scheme for civil servants will become the first public sector scheme to recognise cohabiting heterosexual and same-sex partners.

The scheme, due to launch in October, will see a great number of benefits and has resulted after years of campaigning by the Civil Service Union, PCS.

Partners Ron Strank and Roger Fisher, who both work for the NHS, are currently taking their case to the European Court of Human Rights after discovering that their scheme discriminates against same sex couples.
